Special attention to "word to the wise"
Locate Klondike Mike here or on ebay. These radios are 40 plus years old. Replace the electrolytics and the tantalum capacitors.
I have attached elsewhere the factory service manual. Go fish. or ask if you can't find it. It's full of information about it's audio processing.
There is a wee zener diode attached to the AM power regulator (a TO220 case) that is the easiest and best way to juggle the carrier.
The Uniden/RS/uPD858 chassis notorious for it's filter being asymmetric and moving around over the years. The published frequencies in the tune up may be obtained and the result be a smoking shit sandwich. If you need a generalized approach to spotting carrier insertion points see " Optimizing the HW101".
Any and all AM power, AM carrier, Controlled carrier, or suppressed carrier modifications are bullshit. Inject a two tone audio signal and record max output in SSB. Set your AM output to 25% of that.
