I got it on an auction and at first it worked sporatic so I cleaned the points and it works on transmit but the radio dont receive uless I touch the radio, mic plug or mic. It receives best though when I touch the top of radio and when my hand comes off radio it gets quiet.

Sounds like a grounding issue

i had the same problem.. what i had to do was take a put a wure from one of the screws on the mic to the radio.. i dont know why it happens but it does. when i had my 142 i had to do it to both my tuner ss an my silver eagle. might want to try it it is a pain to have an extra wire roaming around on the bench but it solves it.

Well I dont want a mic that needs an extra wire roaming around like that. If I need an extra wire to ground it then it`s not working the way it is supposed too so I will send it back to the person I got it from, he offerd a garentee with it that it works as it should.

I like the way it looks I hate to get rid of it If I could fix it to work the way it should.
:(

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
