I received my new AT-5555 Plus set-up as I requested. Verified RF watts with my Bird Model 43 wattmeter with a 50 watt element / slug. 2 - 10 watt carrier. 2 watts = 20 PEP watts. 6 watts = 38 PEP watts. 10 watts = 48 PEP watts. I'm leaving the carrier set @ 6 watts. Modulation was factory-set default of 41. I swapped-out the original channel changing microphone with a standard / basic Superstar microphone.
A local CB neighbor lives about twelve miles from my home and he assisted with the first radio-check. Sound quality is equal with original mic and Superstar mic. I prefer the non-channel changing Superstar microphone. My neighbor knows my voice and I increased the modulation to 50 and he told me to "leave it alone"! Sideband is "right-on"!
Nice radio and perfect for local use connected to the colossal 10K. I'll never use, DW (dual watch), Scan, TOT, Echo and Roger Beep.
Bright orange seven-digit 11/16" frequency numbers.
07/26/2025: Updated report. Radio has been working great. Operating the radio with a 6 watt carrier and 38 PEP watts, the temperature on the top cover was at 99 - 101 degrees Fahrenheit. No big deal, but I reduced the RF carrier down to 4 watts with approximately 25 - 28 PEP watts and within fifteen minutes, the temperature stabilized between 90 - 94 degrees.
