Hello Hook 948:

I have one of those little AOR 2002 jewls. It is a very impressive hand held scanner.

Receives SSB great! No problem.

However, its eats batteries big time. It uses 4 each double A batteries, and will last only a few hours on a fresh set of batteries. If you use the expensive, but lower voltage Ni-Cad batteries, the low voltage beeper comes on, as soon as its turned on with a freshly charger set of batteries.

The design engineers should be horse whipped on this one!!!

I am making a custom battery pack, that has 6 each 1.2 volt Ni-Cad batteries. This will give me 7.2 volts and allow for some more running time.

I suggest you call AOR and ask then if they have fixed their poor design, with the AOR 2002, using batteries! I told AOR that I am terrible expensive as a consultant, but worth every dollar. They declined. So I presume that they will stay with the not so bitchen design people thay have now, pity.

There is a 12 volt power cord for mobile use, that comes with the radio.
