Using a true Bird meter takes alot of patience. Wait around until a bird lands on your antenna, key up and then go out and pick up the bird and see how far it's cooked. Rare= not much power, Well done=high power, Burnt= Now your SMOKIN ! And just where did you think the phrase DEAD KEY came from?<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

I have two R.L. Drake W4 watt meters that are pretty accurate also......they don't "exagerate" like the dosy meters do......NB

I know I'm getting old and forget alot of stuff, but are my math skills slipping?

>If you have a 2500 watt slug, and are reading 1500 watts forward power into a pure 50 ohm load, the actual forward power is anywhere from 1625 watts to 1375

Wouldn't that be 1425-1575?

>If the a Bird 43 indicates 150 watts reflected power with a 2500 watt slug, the actual reflected power can range from 25 to 275 watts.

And wouldn't that be 142.5-157?

If i'm missing something tell me!

By all means Audio, I agree. I love those Cherokee meters for the $, but you can't get them anymore new. No need for a bird until you're running over 1kw rms anyway. If you are though, Bird is the standard.
