Clipper Board Completely Omitted

is anyone familiar with those audio clip boards. Installed in Sonar and sbe radios?why would somebody instead of bypassing it completely omit the board and replace it with a transformer that is obviously wired to the bottom of the chassis. what's the difference between bypass and deleting it completely? Then adding a transformer is there a difference why would someone do that I hope someone can explain I'm baffled tanks

Please let me add some information to my question. The transformer looks to be small. Like the size of a uniden 103. It has two Leeds. It's mounted where the speach processor/clipper board used to be on the sonar 2340. It's difficult to tell being I'm looking at an eBay picture. The Leeds seem to be connected. I'm guessing one is connected yo a power source and the other seems to be going n either not the Mic jack , not sure. Anyb help like always is greatly appreciated

A lot of operators bypass the clipper board on the Sonars and other tube rigs to make the voice audio sound more natural. Clipped audio is louder, but has a harsh tone to it that many people find annoying, especially when talking locally at night. In dx conditions, clipping is the way to go as it can provide up to a 10db increase in audio intelligibility at the receive end. Adding a bypass switch gives you the best of both worlds. I have no clue as to why anyone would remove the board. and I definitely don't understand why they installed a transformer in it's place. If you can, post a pic of the transformer and how it's hooked up. 73s.
