Cobra 139 XLR problems

Theres a local guy that has a 139 XLR hes having trouble with. The radio is the 858 chassis and he did channel mod and clarifier he now has scratchy audio on SSB otherwise receive and all work as they should Now for the kicker On AM it transmits great but when he unkeys theres no receive?? Is the VCO setting so far out of wack that this would happen?

Any ideas would be a great help Thanks Tony.

    Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
