How good are these radios. I use to own one back in the late 80's and then sold it for a 2000, then they told me the 142 sounded better. Any good mods?

Yes, they are nice radios, but not as good as the cobra 2000! I had a cobra 142 that did about 28 watts on a peak and it had GREAT audio! There are plenty of ways to get this radio set up, but make sure you get away from swing kits and those kind of things!

Thanks 211,

I was told this radio has the same board thats in my uniden washington...But I dont know for sure....The reason I got it is it comes with a digiscan already installed...Hope this thing talks as good as my Washington....

On Edit: It says to cut R104 and vr6 ,+ vr7 (ssb) I really dont want to cut anything just adjust the modulation and drop the carrier down to around 1 watt.....

I've had a 142 in the past, It was mod'ed 7 ways from sunday and performed beautifully! If you dont want to cut the resistor for the modulation, just unsolder 1 leg of it.
