Cobra 148GTL Audio Problem

I am having a problem with my older Cobra 148GTL, manufactured in 89 made in Phillipines. The radio will transmit fine, but the recieve audio sucks. You can't make out what the person is saying. It sounds like they are talking with a mouth full of crap. This is on AM and SSB. What could the problem be?
 

I could just need an alignment real bad. When was the last time you had it checked out? Or it could be worse....did it just start doing this?
 
I just started noticing it the other day. Ill take it to the shop and pay the $35.00 to have it checked out and aligned.
 
Well, I finally got the radio to the shop. SSB was wayyyy off freq, and no TX or RX on AM. The radio ended up needed an alignment really really bad. The dude said he never saw one this bad. Any way, $50.00 later it hears excellant, and got it tuned up with %100 modulation. :mrgreen:
