Cobra 25 LTD Classic

I'am sure glad you guys ( and gals ) are here..
I recently got a Cobra 25LTD Classic.
It works great.
On a Dosey meter it dk's at 4 watts and swings to 15 watts.
Dont know whats been done to it.
My problem is ( if it is a problem ) that the meter shows around 9 #
of noise where my other radios show 1#.
When I key the mike the needle drops down till I talk then it goes up to
wherever.
Any ideas or shouldn't I be concerned?

sounds as if a receive mod has been done. if you open the radio and look next to the final area, see if there is any caps that look overly large or outta place? no biggie, just turn down your RF gain until you're satisfied with the noise level.

either your receiver agc has been disabled or the s-meter calibration has been adjusted for way over S9=100uv. or a combination of both.
