I think you're going to be disappointed in the answers you get, but here goes:

That Cobra 75 is small, but it's a terrible radio. I know because I had one a long time ago. It was as deaf as deaf could be. You could have another driver right next to you key up and it wouldn't crack open the squelch on the Cobra 75. There also isn't really anything you can do to tune it. You would be better off with a small little radio like a Uniden 510.

Also, small antennas don't work very well, either. If you 're looking to just communicate a mile or so, you might be able to get by with a "through the glass" antenna, but don't expect any miracles. That Wilson Lil' Wil is about as small as you can get and it's already a compromise.
