Couple words of advice:
Please be aware that anyone selling radios and equipment may not be your "turn to first" source of information. Folks selling radios are in business to sell radios. Otherwise, they are out of business.
Ranger FAQ
www.rangerusa.com/faq.html
section 8:
"8. Do you service Galaxy, RG-99, etc. radios?
We receive calls regarding other radios including the Galaxy, Galaxy DX, RG-XX line, General, and Connex for parts and service. To help unravel any confusion: yes, Ranger manufactures the radios for these companies, but under a strict private label agreement, often times at a different factory. However, under that agreement, we (RCI - Ranger USA) do not sell, warranty, service or handle parts, for those products and are not affiliated with them in any other way. The respective companies maintain and service their own products."
And, I repeat for empasis:
"RANGER MANUFACTURES THE RADIOS FOR THESE COMPANIES."
The radios may be "old-style" or "new-style" (dx, blah, etc.), but if the circuit board is the same, well, they're pretty much the same inside.
Open one up and look inside and you'll see.
