Got an old classic on the desk again. This time we have a 40+ year old Excalibur SSB (US version, EPT 10A board) in for checkup and recap.

Upon evaluation:

1. TR32 removed
2. R249 removed
3. TR53 removed
4. Regulator swing mod
5. Swing mod in empty spot beside modulation transistor in Passthrough section.
6. Bias on both driver and final too high.
7. All knobs/switches are scratchy when using.
8. Receive low in all modes, it's receiving but not as it should.
9. Roach tracks, smear, dirt everywhere inside on the chassis.

Wish me luck, lol....

Hawkeye, do you have Lou Franklin's Galaxy service manual? I recommend it, not as the only resource, but in addition to other references you may already have.

Only resources I have are a few Sam's photo facts of oddball radios (not very useful for most of the radios I work on), my old school ways, online sources and you guys/gals.

I do have the PLL data book and the EEPROM data book. Plus I have the secret CB books and tune up master editions (which I don't use).

Books I own and read on this subject:
Secrets of RF Circuit Design - Joseph J. Carr.
Beam antenna handbook - Stuart D. Cowan.
Vertical antenna handbook - Stuart D. Cowan.
ARRL handbook - ARRL
ARRL antenna handbook - ARRL
Practical antenna design - Joseph J. Carr.
Coax and feed line theory
Basic electronics

Plus I'm a general class license holder, if that counts for anything, lol...

I also work on old game consoles, old PC's/laptops, newer TV's, basically any electronics I can see the parts and traces of I'll attempt to fix.

Not much knowledge (about 30+ years of experience), but I do my best.
