I have seen a few posts of people reporting interference to computer speakers when running power. I was wondering if these same amplified computer speakers where used on the radio would they still produce feedback? I seem to be going deaf (says wife) and don't like headphones and my non amplified speakers just don't get the job done.

I suspect that if a speaker system get's interfered with in one application then it will more than likely get interfered with in another application. The typical amplified computer speakers are very seldom designed with any RF protection at all, no shielding etc. There are other considerations besides that 'shielding', such as the length of the speaker cables, which can possibly contribute to producing interference from RF (and the power line to those speakers). Any of those 'faults' can be 'cured', just depends on how much trouble you wanna go to.
I'm using a amplified computer speaker on a radio in the house now, no interference yet. That certainly doesn't mean that it'll stay that way, but it's working for me now. I've also used a Radio Shack amplified speaker, it worked fine (even with that nasty name on it). So it can be done. Give it a try and see what happens.

(I'm 'blessed' with the use of one'a them 'electric ears' from all of the loud noises I've been around. If you have the $$$ for it, they even do 'BlueTooth' now! They are also a Royal PITA in other respects, batteries, don't get'em wet, and remembering to wear the @#$ things, and clean them. But then, they make for one of the best excuses to ignore someone that I've ever run across! ;))

It won't matter where the speakers are used or in what application. The problem is the speaker leads and the leads from the power supply act as antennas and feed the RF back into the amplifier where it is converted back into audio. Without proper RF bypassing you end up hearing the transmitted audio.

Agreed with everyone else with out proper RF protection you will get feedback,

And as far as going deaf.. It is called "selective hearing" that is a natural thing men get with time in a marriage :lol::lol::lol:

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes

Wes, it's better if you start a thread on the main forum, more people are going to see your question.
