I have SMD boards made and 7.8 MHz crystals (and 10.695 too) to do exactly that. Similar to his boards, but in Surface mount (except for the crystals, they are HC49U short).

28 to a sheet, V Grooved to break apart, I have 10 sheets, and all of the SMD parts too, but I only ordered 10 crystals of each ( 5 units each of 7.8 and 10.695) to sample from a crystal company. I will order in bulk crystals from them when I get into full swing later.
