If 90% of our Driving is around town below 50 mph
would this support a 5 foot antenna
with a medium Antenna spring?

I Plan on using this with an old GE Handheld Model
With the PL-259 adapter Listed in the Manual here
the radio and adapter end will be inside the car of course LOL

The manufacturer doesn't recommend a 5 foot antenna so I don't think I'd do it.

If the antenna has the coil at the base and a flexible whip it should be OK however how thick the metal on the roof of the car is will have a big effect.

The 90% of your driving isn't what you need to worry about. Its the 10% when it is out of town above 50MPH.

fiberglass, nope. for that you'd want a MFJ-336T Goliath type.

Is the magnet a 5 inch? I run a Wilson silver load 4 foot on a 5 inch mag, no problems except for when I go off road. But I don't have a spring...
