As I have a couple questions, Was wondering what would be a good one, and at the best price Trunk Tracking scanner ? and what is the differance between the two and the three ?

As it looks like they make both, Is this so ? Would like full coverage on it also,

For myself would like one for mobile & Base use with full coverage what would you guys recomend ? and what type of antena for the mobile? Thanks for the help maybe you could also give me some links to look at.

Which scanner to buy depends a lot on where you live. If your local's have gone digital, then the choice is narrowed to only one choice, the Uniden 250 hand held. Their base version should be released soon as well, but isn't for sale yet.

If your area hasn't went digital, and doesn't plan to for a while, then you have a lot more choices. My trunking radio is a Radio Shack Pro 95 hand held. 1000 channels and will trunk Motorola and EDACS systems. Probably the nicest base station trunking scanner is the Uniden 780, but its pretty pricey as well. I am waiting on the 785 to be released, as its pretty much the same radio but with the capability of doing digital as well.

If by full coverage you mean cell, your not going to find a trunk tracker that will have those freqs opened up. But believe me, I do have a scanner here that will listen to cell, and its about the most damn boring crap on earth to listen to. Usually you'll only get half of the conversation, and also digital cells are pretty much the norm now anyway, so your chances are pretty slim of hearing anything interesting.

As for antenna, I'm currently using a Diamond RH77CA attached to the Pro 95 when mobile and it has a pretty good receive. I can get the trunking system about 40 miles south of me using it, but when home I hook it up to a scantenna mounted to the side of my VHF antenna tower, about 35 ft. up, and can get systems over 80 miles from here.

Yes, thats what I'm using now. The truck actually has an external "scanner antenna" but the diamond does about as good as the external.

The external isn't anything special though. Just a short whip with no coil or anything.

For sure, the Diamond kicks the hell out of the stock rubber duck.

Nope, no way is it as good as my regular radio on CB reception. It would pass for traveling, but not near the range of a roof mount Wilson 1000. But, to Diamonds credit, its only advertised as a 120 Mhz to 900 mhz antenna, which is quite a bit above the bowl.

Big Red,

Yep, you do know the answer to the question. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D"> It is not going to have the same range, simply because your inside and enclosed metal object, and any "rubber duck" antenna you buy isn't going to be optimized as well as a 1/2 wave or 5/8 wave external CB antenna. But again, I think with the right antenna you would be fine for traveling purposes. Either that, or get a BNC to Coax adaptor and use an external antenna connected to the Pro-95. THEN, you would really be in business.
