I have decided I want to buy a scanner. Not sure which one to get or where to start. There is a fella that's selling a PRO-2052 scanner for $50. It covers 10 Meter Amateur Radio, 29.7000--49.9950, 6 Meter Amateur Radio, 108.0000--136.9750, Government 137.0000--143.9950
2 Meter Amateur Radio, VHF Hi 148.0000--174.0000, VHF TV 179.7500-215.7500, 1 Meter Amateur Radio
VHF Aircraft 225.000-399.9875, Amateur Radio/Government 400.0000--419.9875, 70-cm Amateur Radio, UHF Standard, UHF "T", Public Service 806.0000--823.9375, Public Service/Trunking Repeater 851.0000--868.9875, Public Service 896.1125--956.0000 and 25-cm Amateur Radio.

Anyways what do you think?

I gave mine away it cannot be rebanded and unlike the 2053 the display would not display what you had programed in that ch.

AS LONG as you don't care and are not using motorola trunking it will work $50 is not a bad price ......

http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=1529

And MOST of your county is not trunking unlike mine.

Ham " SIMPLEX " frequencies to program in ....

10 meters 29.600, 29.620, 29.640, 29.660 and 29.680 mhz
6 meters 52.525
2 meters 146.520

Ceck with your local hams for repeaters ....

The 2052 will track EDACS and the folowing Motorola systems:
Motorola Type I
Motorola Type II
Motorola Type IIi Hybrid
Motorola Type II Smartnet
Motorola Type II Smartzone
Motorola Type II Smartzone Omnilink

I use a pair of 2052s for monitoring Military air and satellites.

UNTIL THEY ARE REBANDED ....... the radio will not track REBANDED MOTOROLA it's good only for EDACS

I WORK FOR THE SHERIFF OFFICE AND CANNOT HEAR OUR TRUNKING SYSTEM WITH A 2052 or 2053

If your is tracking rebanded systems show me how .....

Pro-2052 - The RadioReference Wiki

After rebanding it will not track EDACS either.

I do not usually monitor any trunked systems, my county still uses VHF for police and sheriff and VHF-Low for fire dispatch.

Do some research on your area before you buy anything or you might be wasting your money. In our area for example everything is on the Motorola APCO25 digital system. There is only one specific scanner that can pick this traffic up.

If you have a fancy new cell phone you might be better off running a scanner ap.

Just one scanner or do you mean one type of scanner?

Is it possible to be on a lake and have a homing directional beam being emitted from the shore so a person could navigate to that beam's source? For example at night to a jetty.
