well, i just got this rig friday (24th). Im waiting to get my license in a few weeks, im really looking forward to it, i did study last year and was getting into it pretty good with reading, but i had to much going on at one time, i just put it off, now im lookling forward to it again, and hope to get a license real soon. This radio is awesome, so many features, it will blow you away. QUESTION, what is probably the best mic other then the stock onee to run on this radio when mobile and then when at base? As soon as i get my ticket, i have my eye on 3 or 4 base rigs i am going to get. Thanks

Just a FYI

I talked to a local who moved into ham from CB and brought with him his Astatic 575 on his 706MKIIG

It sounded like crapola, he didnt care what anyone told him because he always used that mic on his Cobra 29 and 148 that these snooty hams didnt know there ass from a hole in the ground they just didnt want a CB mic on ham freqs!!!!

PARANOID I THINK HE IS!!!!!!

I heard him and he sounded like CRAP but I never talked to him because he was already set in his ways,,,,,PLEASE give it a chance that stock mic will sound good i know its tiny but they have the ability to sound GREAT learn the radio and the features you can taylor that audio on the 706.

Heil makes a mic for mobile use, that may be a option,,,

The Heil HMM iC for ICOM

A very special hand microphone that contains the new Heil 'ic' electret condenser element that works only with ICOM tranceivers.

This HMM-iC is terminated with a blue 8 pin connector wich mates with ICOM tranceivers.

remember you just spent some $$$ on a good radio let it work for you!! dont force it to try and work with CB stuff

Just my opinion, actual mileage may vary
