Think about it a little. You are going to be the one who has to sit and stare at your radio, so mount it in such a way that it's 'easy'/pleasing to use. There's no 'standard' way of doing that, it's a matter of what you can do and what satisfies you.
I have several larger things on the desk as a sort of 'base' for other equipment. Luckily, a couple of those larger thingys are close enough to the same height, and tall enough, that setting radios on top of them get those radios to a sort of 'eye level' (or when tilted work just fine). Don't know about you, but a shelf to set things on, and provide space for paper etc, is also nice.
I can't honestly say that things will stay as they are at present. It's certainly changed a number of times (and sometimes even changed back). I'll never have all the room I wish I had, so 'making do' gets to be sort of 'normal'.
