I've been using this amp. on am only. The primary radio I use it with is a Sonar fs 2340. It dead keys at 2 1/2 watts and swings to 6. Surprisingly it's a very clean operating amp. I truly believe in junk in junk out. Any way, I don't want to put anymore than the 2 1/2 I'm putting in. I would like to know whats the failure point? How many watts can I safely put through this amp. without it frying or begining to cause channel splatter which, at this time with the 2 1/2 swinging to 6 is extremely minimal. Actually it doesn't exist as my nearest local is a ways away. He says when I transmit on my home channel, 15 he gets me on 16 as if I were running stock from a few blocks away. Granted he's also using a Sonar which has an excellent recive. So if you have used this amp or many of the same amps produced under many different names, can you tell me you exsperiance as far as max wattage through this amp. The reason for the question is I have a few radios I'd like to hook up to this amp. Thay run from 5 to 10 watts.

Dont run more than 3 watts deadkey in AM and watch your SSB drive power or they get scratchy sounding stay between 10 - 12 watts input on SSB i bought 2 simulay amplifiers through HNY in the mid 1990s and another guy took one of them which I ended up with years later when he got outta radio and I bought him out. His did the same as mine as far as gettlng scratchy or funky sounding if you didnt watch the drive levels and "usually" when they get scratchy or funky sounding their also transmittiing wide and dirty. The 2 I bought new had 4 of the ever so popular sd1446 70 watt transistors in them.

THANKS TONYV.

Yes thats is the amp, 4 1446's. I have a few radios that need to be brought down to 3. This is the first transistorized amp I've ever used. I'm totally surprised at how nice it works. I would hate to fry it. I'd have to go back to the old sweep tube amp. Twenty minutes warm up time, then tune up time I'm done with that. I have a lighted meter, can I run the the lights off the 12 V 35 amp power supply that's built into this amp? One strange thing about this amp. It has the Palomar lions crest located top right corner yet in the middle no name. Just says 500.

This is concerning and confusing. You say it's "clean", yet are intelligible at least a channel away from your TX.

THATS CLEAN IN MY BOOK.

I remember people using amps that would splatter 15 channels away. As a matter of fact rigs with the best Recivers can get spatt from a five watt radio transmitting from a half a mile away even if it's transmitting on frequency. For the sake of argument, ok it's not a clean amp. As a matter of fact it's a piece of steaming dog shit but it's, my amp and I like it. As a matter of fact I love it. If it had a warm soft hole I'd fuck it.
