when i just key the mic i get a line on the tv screen on a certain channel but when i disconect the antenna and key the mic nothin happens..the radio is only 10 feet from the tv..whats up ? you,d think with the antenna off and this close to the tv there would be all kinda interference..

Uhh, I wouldn't do that too often - unless you want to fry yer finals!
A load must be kept on the radio's output when keying the mic on ANY radio!
The interference can be caused by simply having the radio too close to the TV set. Most people have cable TV these days, which doesn't have any problems. I don't. Then, making sure your radio is properly grounded may help, as well as the TV antenna - if you have one.

@ ButtFuzz:Please advise me to what is a good replacement mic for my SR-497HPC... Answer: 497 is "wired like Cobra", so many choices available. That radio does not need a power mic, so purchase a stock "coffin style" mic with a decent cord, like the ones that Astatic uses.
