Just got a 430S. This transciever is rated at 100 watts on SSB. I'm only getting about half that. I'm using the mic gain to make the adjustment. If I turn it up too high it starts to break up in transmission. Any pointers from you guys on getting the max?

Thanks!!!

Wayne, did you get the PS 430 with it and if not, Do you

have a ample power supply for it.

Also the manuel comes in handy on it, I hope you got that

or at least a copy of one. If not it can be downloaded in PDF

format.

Also, and I am sure that you know this already but you will

need a good peak reading wattmeter to tell the output.

A meter that is not externally powered such as a CB type

wattmeter will not tell the true story.

Of course it may need to see the Doctor !!

I hope that it does not, but if it does You will be pleased when

it is returned with a clean bill of health...

Eduk8tor,

Best advice is to get a manual, if you don't already have

one. Second best advice is to stay out of the radio. Don't

start turning things up. The TS-430 ~can~ put out almost

200 watts Pep on SSB, but you drastically reduce the life

of the finals, just ain't worth it. Keep the needle in the 'ALC'

range when talkiing and you will be getting full output.

The '430 is a nice radio...

Yep, have the manuel. Just thought I wasn't doing things right. No, I won't start turning things. Wouldn't know how to anyway. Jim, CDX-44 says it really sounds great. Thought maybe there might be an antenna problem but SWR's are below 1.5. I checked the mods.dk site and there was mention there about checking tightness of one of the boards,or problems due to riveted finals or the SO-239 not being tight. I checked the SO-290 and its OK.

I don't think that would have any bearing on the output of the radio. I'm checking output with an external meter.
