KLV 1000 Set-Up question-

Thanks Carl... These were the numbers I were given..

(AM Power Settings)
2 Watt Dead Key
4-5 Watt RMS
12 Watt Swing

(SSB Settings)
15 Watt Peak

Wondering if this looked right...

Thanks in advance! 8)

deadkey is rms, kep it low and let the amp do the work. keep in mind its not a powerhouse, and wont be as clean as a ameritron, henry, or heathkit. it should do you just fine for long range dx. just rember you gotta let them warm up. you cant just turn them on and start jabbering. the newer graphite tubes that the klv uses will take it better than the old glass sweep tubes but it will make for a short life.

Yup... I got an old Henry floor model Linear, Had an SB220 for years... Also had quite a few of the old Swan ham radios... Quite familiar with the old Tubes!

That's why I decided on this linear, I miss the old tubes, man I miss the old radios and how they crackled/smelled etc... I had an old Hallicrafters Boat Anchor... They got that name for a reason.. The receiver alone weighed 40 LBS I bet... LOL!!

Thanks for the help Carl... Appreciate the info.

I think we got it. I put it on the bench tonight and opened her up. I set the Deadkey to 2 Watts and the radio is Swinging about 10 Watts and popping to 12 or a tad more if I get carried away with the Mic...

Sadly enough the only way I could cut the Swing down was to adjust the Mic gain... Adjusting the Modulation Pot did nothing... I am not sure what is going on here, but the radio sounds good... Even with it "Clipped" I was still talking a good distance tonight barefoot, about 20 miles.... I can't wait to put the 5 Tubed Linear in for some real fun... It is scheduled to deliver on Tuesday, I just checked Fed-Ex and it tracked to within' a couple hundred miles of here.

I set the SSB to PEP around 15 Watts... Sometimes with a good howl on the mic it hits 20... So I should be good there too.

Time will tell!!! :P
