When I first got into this hobby back in the late 70s, it was not uncommon for 10 & 11 meters to be open day and night for weeks on end. Solar Cycle 21 was a real barn burner at times.

None of those things has anything to do with the lack of night-time skip! That is down to the particular conditions of this skip cycle.
There is also the fact that the average age of people on the radio is in the 60 to 70 range, and those folks go to bed early!

Or are you implying that you don't hear skip at night because of noise from cellphones, computers and LED lights? I have several of all those things and my noise level is 0, so those things might not be the source of any noise you do have.
In recent years I've found internet over powerline systems and plasma TV's to be the single biggest generators of RFI, with good old fashioned dirty arcing powerlines in third place, followed by shitty Chinese SMPS's.

Skip on 37 LSB was off the hook today. I made one contact after another. Trouble is they were all short and sweet. Went back down to the shack around 7:30 and Nada but dead air

BTW . . . Does anyone else hear the loud tone that varies in intensity on 35USB ?? I can hear weak stations but the tone covers them up.

I made several calls on 35 usb today.. nada. I always have heavy AM traffic from south of the border on 35.. Made several west coast and Canada contracts on 36 & 37 LSB all short ones. Slid down to .360 had a 10 minute chat with a dude in Cali.

I hear it every day for the past month !
Its a local to me idiot that plays a 1Khz tone or music sometimes on an expanded Hi-Fi galaxy base radio using his new mosfet amp doing around 1200w's.
It splatters down 3 channels and up 1 channel around here. He does this on 35 AM & sometimes 38 AM.

I hear the music sometimes on 35USB, always way off frequency!
Never has a strong signal here....If that's 1.2Kw the guy needs to get a better antenna, it sounds more like 12 watts.

He's on 35 AM..... that's why it sounds off... and he is using a sirio M400 starduster style antenna.

Who knows! We haven't had any clowns locally for many years, but when we did they were generally using their own equipment.
I think a lot of the folks that do this have a vendetta against someone or a group of people, or a certain channel that folks use locally and are trying for some kind of weird radio revenge or something............

My local uses his own equipment and its mainly against the 2 guys that are on usually disrupting Ch 38 by talking on 27.383 lsb. The 2 in question are haters.
These 2 even have a face book page called 27.383 SSB to further hate.

There's also another guy in buffalo 70 miles away that does the F U canadian 11111 repeat that I get at 4 S units. He hates a local to him Canadian I guess, and he doesn't like to be mistaken as one. I found out the hard way accidentaly and then he turned on me.

But guess what we all have to hear that shit all day too.
Annoying isn't the word. Some people have nothing better to do other than try to disrupt.
