I think for mobile operations the Grant would have an edge on the 257. I have had 1 257 and 1 of its clones and both radios had very noisy receivers in the mobile. I had to run the RF gain between 60 and 75% to knock back the noise levels. I did at one time have and old 3 button President Grant with the 858 PLL and it was a great receiver with a very effective noise blanker, but the 257 and its clone had way better audio than the Grant. All of this is operating in SSB mode, AM might have been a different story.
KIR 118, it wasn't bleedover I had the problem with. It was just plain ol receiver noise and engine noise and things like that. The 257's noise blanker did nothing for it while the noise blanker in the Grant took out about 90% of it. Man I wished that old Grant hadn't of died on me<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/tongue.gif ALT="">
I just got my radios back from being peak & tuned at 1 Stop. They told me that the Magnum 257 deadkeys at 4 watts and swings to 25 watts and the Grant deadkeys at 4 watts and swings between 18-20 watts.
I am kind of leaning towards the 257 because of it's size, however I can use the Grant as well. Which radio would you use and why?
I know there are allot of Grant users, I would really like to hear from the 257 users as well.
