Anyone own one of theses? I just puchased one for $100 and I hear they have some serious audio.

would it be ok to run one with a xt-400 x-force without frying the finals?

yeah maybe it will be loud UK MUDDUCK but I guess it's to new for anyone around here to comment on, so I'll just plug that bad boy in and do the old trial and error like I did all the rest of my junk.

Well here are my findings so far on this radio, all audio reports are excellent bordering on being too loud but that's operator error or maybe not (lol) some of the comments are "smokin","blowin smoke","you just blew out my speaker mack in the cannawhoopass mobeel" and the list goes on and these are local as well as dx contacts, the turbo echo is a fun little option of the S-3 and the power of the radio is awsome, power ranges from 1/4 watt to 15 on the keyup and swings to 32 watts so it's got all a radio needs, it has a connector for a frequency counter in the rear of the radio( kinda wish they had just left a cut out in the face for it though.

There is no need for a power mic and recieve is great, and the talk back volume is an asset aswell so in conclusion I'd say it was well worth the $100 I paid for it.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D">

They're ok in my opinion, just not too fond of the "top gun" modulator.

"BUMP" !

Hey Mack2000 -> do you still have the Magum S3 ?

I'm using one. Was offered by a co-worker to try out. It's the "Blue backlite version", guess there's also a "Green" version...

I like the cool Blue lighting. The "receive" seems noisier than my SuperStar , not quite as noisy as my old Cobra25 .

TalkBack Volume (adjustable)... I can't go above 1.5 on the dial, and don't need to. Big time feedback, if I go above 1.5. I use a external speaker.

Radio has been 'on the bench'. I'm told the modulation limiter has been disabled. I've been keeping the "power" knob at 12:00 position or even back to 9:00 . Don't get any comments saying, " TURN THAT THING DOWN " ! :D Perhaps I'll give it some more power and see how it does.

The Turbo Echo is fun. Much different than the Connex unit. I can't comment on the " Top Gun " modulator . Not enough experience with other radios, no comparison.

Off Topic - The "FG Best Communications" link isn't working.

jdgee,

I recently replaced my Super Star 3900 GHP with a Magnum S-3.....What a difference.(granted the SS is 5years young and needs to be re-done ;) :) ) BUT this S-3 is the 'lil "Hot Rod' as promised..My signal goes out farther and RX is a little better.(will be going back to duals,my "Dump Bucket" creates a huge right side blind spot)..

You are also correct in that you need to start out with adjustments at low levels until you find the "learning curve"..Too much "Powa" with the TG on sounds real "Tinny"...

Just my 2 Cents, but then again it is my $$ to spend  :D :D ..

Snoope back quiet

p.s. my coax connection on my SS is the same as the S-3..

Hey Snoop,
Nice look'in Pete ! I was using a 3900 SuperStar too, before picking up the Magnum S3. Having problems with the S.Star, but plan on trying to get it straightened out...

The antenna I'm using is a home-made job. A co-worker makes 'em up. They use a 5' whip, attached to a "Wilson" look-a-like setup. Total length is ...... ??? Well, it's long ! :)

I pull "doubles", and so far it seems like I'm getting a decent 360° radius , antenna coverage.

Thanks for the reply, jdgee
