I heard one guy who did a short cut on warming up his radio. When he first turns it on,he key's down and holds it in the key down position for one minute then he's good to go. Might not have anything to do with the crystal warming up to operating temperature but it's worth finding out.

I have a radio buddy that put a 12v dash bulb against the crystal in his galaxy 959 to keep it warm anytime it was on. It still drifted a little but not much

You could probably do the same with a power transistor. Just make sure that you have it power regulated and insulated
