Midland 79-290 AM/SSB radio opinions?

Looking for a new CB. Any opinions on this Midland? I am particular interested in receiver performance (sensitivity, adjacent channel rejection, noise sensitivity), and SSB performance. Does anybody use one of these, would you buy another, and is it worth the coin? I am currently using a Galaxy DX99V, and I like it. My only complaint is that SSB drifts a VERY little. How does the Midland compare in performance?

Thanks for the Input.

Dan

DG1976,

I have owned a couple and still have one 79-290. The reciever is noisy and the noise blanker on these are non exsistent. Very tempature sensitive on SSB. Will drift 200 cycles high when cold, after it warms up it does seem fairly stable on SSB. I don't know how much you want to spend on one, but National Electronics has them for $159.95. I personally would not purchase another one. There are a lot better radios for the price.

Hope this helps

If that 99 is set up right your gonna have to go a long way to beat it as far as talking on AM and SSB and most importantly durability! Yea they drift, but I spent alot of money on other radios to get away from that with my 77 and........I'm still using the 77!

Just my 2 cents.
