I have several antennas sitting around here along with parts. I was thinking ....Can I take one of the aluminum antennas I have sitting here and shorten it to use on 6 meters??
LMAO @ BOBBER!! Mole I dont know I have a few 5/8 wave aluminum antenna here I dont use I figured I wouldnt have to cut anything just slide the sectiond in farther to what Ide need. Im pissed off and bored my inverted V is acting up I believe water got into the coax and let me tell crazy stuff goin on with it.
I was sitting here thinking about what I could make a 6 meter antenna out of and thought that cutting an antron or my I max down would be not such a swell idea I even thought of altering one of the couple superscanners I have here but again maybe not a good idea to to that to one of those and gamble it.
sorry tony, im starting to think everybody that experiments with aluminum tube is called booty,
a 5/8wave groundplane from an old cb antenna is a good idea, you will need to modify the matching but they work.
Look up the dimensions for a 5/8 wave 6m vertical. Modify the segments to match. Then tap or adjust the matching section until you get a satisfactory match.
Take before, during, and after pictures and post them
It gets a bit dicey when using loading and matching components meant for 11m on another band. The easiest and IMHO the best thing to do is salvage the aluminum and build a proper antenna from scratch forgetting about any matching or loading coils. Years ago I salvaged my old Wilson Shooting Star and turned it into a six element 6m yagi and still have lots of tubing left over. The antenna works like a charm, better in fact then Cushcraft's 6m yagi. The side rejection is awsome and locals take note when I swing it around towards them.
