I was DXing one day from my home in Rhode Island and happen to hear to others talking, when they were done I keyed up and started talking to this one guy. Little did I know at the time that he was flying a military C-130 on his way to Somolia, this was during the Somolia conflict( the one Black Hawk down was based on) He was 10,000' up and 300 miles off the coast of R.I.
Apparently, he got tired of talking on the mil. channels and came down to catch some DX time.
I also talked to a man in Estonia. He was using a mobile Base setup because the base stations were outlawed. He would set up for 15 minutes or so and move to a new location.9 they were in a revotution at the time trying to become seperate from Russia
