This post I guess is aimed at Rolling Radios and all the Lincoln,HR2510 etc owners.

I'm having a hard time deciding on which radio to buy.

I have sold my base (DX 2517) and are currently using a Connex 4800DXL with a Turner 3 desk mic.

My concern is with bleedover. I normally run a 3 bleedover from Mexican skip off of .470/.472.

I know the Delta Force will talk AM better than a Lincoln, but if I want a Loud ,Echo, aggravating radio I still have my Connex. I'm looking for a very good SSB with a quiet recieve that has some channel rejection.

I also own a Magnum 257, a Titian, a Cobra 148NWST(<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> ) and a Cobra 25 LTD, President Grant expanded.

I'm just looking for a Radio that will serve me well, easy to use, and dependable.

Thanks for any replies

Re: Me Dummy,,,Can't make up my mind.

Well, Peddler, as for the 2510/Lincoln, I got mine from bander.com and its a great radio right out of the box no doubt. In fact, I thought long and hard about leaving the damn thing alone, BUT...sent it off to doc and when it came back it was like a different radio. Stock it had almost no swing on AM, it just keyed the same that it talked at. Now it'll swing with the rest of my radio's and sounds great doing it. I don't really see a lot of difference on SSB, other than it puts out more power now (right at 40 watts on a Cherokee meter). All in all, I have a bit of money wrapped up in the Lincoln now, but it's definitely a "keeper". I use a Turner 3b on mine. As for the USB bleedover, I get it too, and I'm not sure there is a really good way to get rid of it other than stepping up to a lot more expensive radio with narrow filters, like an Icom or something.

I did see Hoosier Camel Jockey has got an AR3500 for sale, an older radio but a damn fine one none the less. Mine has the factory mods (variable power, 100 watt, SP1, scanning mic board), and I got to tell you its a great radio on both SSB and AM. Ears are on par with my Lincoln, maybe a bit better but with a tad more noise.

Well that's enough typing for a Sunday morning! Good luck in your quest.

If you're satisfied with the Mag 257 then you'll like the Delta.

Re: Me Dummy,,,Can't make up my mind.

Peddler,

I don't have a suggestion for you. I do want to point out

that a SSB signal is 3 Khz wide, so if someone is closer

than 3 Khz, you are going to hear them to some extent,

since there's a 1 Khz 'over-lap' of signal. There's no

good way of getting rid of that unless someone moves

further away. A filter will 'pinch' what you hear down to

a narrower 'window', but you also loose some of the

desired signal. But it does work (if you can put up with

the 'tinny' sounding signals). Don't want to 'rain on your

parade', but that's how it works...

Re: Me Dummy,,,Can't make up my mind.

RR; I have the 257 in the truck and it does a good job for the environment. I am wanting this for a base unit, primarily SSB.

Doc, thanks for your response,,,The SSB bleed is not from this area that I can determine as I have used a small locater beam and it is not within a 3 mile radius. Just tring to get away from the K-Mart specials.

Another Question......

Why is a Lincoln so soft on AM?

Thanks

Re: Me Dummy,,,Can't make up my mind.

It was a hard choice but,,,,,,,

I ordered a new Lincoln from 1 Stop Electronics today.

Along with the radio, I also ordered a 575M6 mic so it will be ready to go on arrival.

RR; it was a hard choice betwereb the Delta Force and the lincoln, but I don't talk AM that much and the quiter recieve as reported fpr the Lincoln made me swin that way. Nothing against you or the Delta. Thanks for all your input .

Thanks for all the comments,

Re: Me Dummy,,,Can't make up my mind.

No sweat here! I do more AM than SSB so a Lincoln is definately not my cup-o-tea! And the Delta gets so many flowers on AM and SSB I just can't see using anything else... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">
