Texas Ranger TR-296. It is just a older style Malaysian Cobra 148 with the on-off/squelch and mic gain switched in location.
New in box and it was.
The seller wanted to unload it to buy a General Lee..............I just bit my lip and handed over the cash.
The radio is blaring loud and great sounding with the coffin style stock mic.
Some people just don't know what they have.
Cut R131 and adjusted VR11 for 12 watts ssb. Yes I volted the final too and it keys 2 and swings 10 watt Bird average! Yes I volted the final and cut the AM limiter so burn me at the stake.
This radio is louder than my General Lee but he wanted one. My only dislike with this 296 is the gold knobs and bezel, but I can live with it. Maybe I should sell it on Ebay for $500.
