This was posted on the yahoo Icom 706 group last nite:

"This is what the Icom rep told me at the Memphis Hamfest. It's a lie. There is no Icom 7000. It's a fake, nothing more.

The rep told me the same thing last weekend at the Charlotte, NC hamfest! I wouldn't post it for fear of being called

Here's another follow-up from the same group on yahoo:

Hi Everyone! When this first hit the page a friend of mine dropped ICOM an E-Mail to see if it was going to be showcased at the Dayton Hamvention. Here is his response from the ICOM service center:

Thank you very much for your inquiry. Icom Incorporated is developing many new products to meet the requests and expectation of our customers. The model you had inquired is one of such models. Unfortunately, however, it is still too early to make any announcements on the specification, release timing and price etc, as such are still undecided. We will be announcing such details on our homepage, through dealers or magazines as soon as possible. We ask for your understanding in this situation and thank you in advanced for your enquiry and patience regarding information from us.

Another post from someone who emailed Icom about the radio:

"We have received a memo from our home company in Japan that confirmed the IC-7000 was in the research and development phase but they did not give us any specs or other details. At this time all pictures specs circulating the net are purely speculation as far as we know.

AES Superfest attended by me yesterday. Icom rep say its not real.
I was standing in a crowd and said he cannot say it is real at an AES superfest because other retailers would cry foul!

WHY THE HIGH PRICE OF THE 706?
The rep replied the Japanese yen and american dollar.

I again said he is full of bullhockey because they did not raise the price on any of the other ICOM radios. The I asked, are you trying to say that the 706 has such special components that Icom could only raise the price of that radio? Or are they raising the price in anticipation of a new rig? He laughed and changed the subject!

I can see the cost to have it manufactured might of went up $10 or $20. But I think most part it is greed on their part since it is one of their best selling models.
