Original style 2970. Been working fine for couple of years. Now starting to jump around 2 to 5 kcs at a time. Memory battery is new. Freq. display is unaffected. Anyone familiar with a cause or fix ???

Ha! Will do. Had a guy suggest replacing the caps around the PLL Chip. There are two. A 220uf and 47uf, typical electrolytic cans. I replaced the 220 as it kind of looked like it had a burned place on it and was hopeful as it held good for a solid hour but then did the jump again. I should have changed that 47 while I was there but didn't. Might do that today and see how it goes. Seems I'm close to the problem as changing the 220 did make a difference at least at first.

also i think either my finals or driver is gone cause i have very little output
5 watt on ssb and 1 watt on am.im thinking about doing a rfx 75 conversion done

So I got around to replacing the 2nd nearby can capacitor next to the PLL chip, the 47uf one, and this has so far fixed the problem. Frequency has held stable as normal with no jumping in 2 days so I guess it's done. The factory caps were also cheap 16v ones. Both replacements I put in were 35v types.

Should be same fix for a 2950. Same board in most models

recap: Mine is the first gen non-DX 2970. Should be same board as first gen non-dx 2950

Caps are C99 (220uf) and C201 (47uf) just to the left of and looking down upon the PLL chip, IC 17

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
