i just bought this amp about two months ago, and the pills that were in it were 4xsrf2072. are these the "stock" pills that go in the amp when new? what can i put in to replace them? also, when i got the amp, it put out 800 watts. then, without doing anything to the amp, it went down to 300. then it just wouldnt work at all. does anyone have any schematics, tips, or anything so i can return this amp to its former glory? :headbang

TX Model 5500

It May not be the same model, but this info should be close.....

Palomar Electronics Corp. Model TX-5200

The SRF line of Transistors were custom Built for RF Parts in San Marcos CA, By Motorola Many moons ago, so I would be willing to bet they are the ones that came with the Amp New.
They Are still here, and if you give them a call they are very helpful in suggesting Replacement Transistors for ones that are no longer being made.

As far as the Output 800 watts is asking wayyyy to much for that 4 device amp even at PEP ratings.....
If I remember right, they are about the same as the MRF 455....That is a 60 Watt , 30 Mhz Power transistor...
The thing to remember is that the 5500 number is a model number....Not the output rating of the amp.

I have a tx 5500, can anyone tell any info on it? I had it since my old CB days and now I am a ham and i would like to know if it can be used on ham bands, and what its out put my be. Thanks.

I have the TX-5200 I ran it on 10 meters and that was it due to lack of input tuning in them. If that amp is like my TX-5200 and has the band selector / filtering then yes it can be used on the other bands BUT..... You have to remember there is no input tuning so you will need a radio with an internal tuner or run a outboard tuner for inbetween the radioi and amplifier along with another outboard tuner capable of handling the PEP of the amplifier and this second this tuner is for the usual spot (Right before the antenna.
