Ok guys picked up an old president washington with the 858 PLL. The relay was chattering and there was no transmit. I read where you could ethier replace C179 or remove it. I removed it and the relay stopped chattering but it still has no transmit. Could it be because I didn't replace C179(2.2 uf 25v capacitor) or is the final blown or something along those lines. Any ideas one what to check?

I would replace C179 with a 2.2 uf electrolytic capacitor. That restores output in most radios. If it doesn't then I would suspect a blown final if TX is out, but RX is good. The final is the C1307. Let us know how you get on with it. Those Washingtons are a fine radio.

~Cheers~

Thanks justindepolis. I know the 1969 finals are getting hard to find and if I understand correctly the 2sc2312 is a direct replacement. So should I throw one in it or do you guys know of something better.

If you have a 2SC2312, that will work just fine. Drop it in, and do a light TX retune and you should be good. Try that, and let us know how you get on.

~Cheers~

Thought I had one but looked through my parts bin and can't find it. Eleflow makes a hrf20w they are a direct replacement for the 1969 I think I'll order one in a few minutes and try it. The radio recevies really well so I hope to get it transmiting soon.

let me know how you make out, mine just tonight died, thought is was a final. So I replaced the driver and final and nothing, ughh!

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
