hello all,

my 2970n2 seems to have a little issue with the mic cord .
sitrep- using it in a mobile setup with 102" sw
happens on all frequencies
mic is the stock 158 with the channel buttons on the side .

whenever i am holding the mic/cord the static drastically decreases .
whenever i let go it increases.

I wish i had another mic wired for it so i could see if it was mic related or an internal short /issue . when ever my bare skin is touching the mic/cord the receive really cleans up.

Has anyone ever encountered this problem? any help would be greatly appreciated on this matter.
Maybe bad wiring in the mic with the mic ground?????

If the mic works then there is nothing wrong with it. The issue you are having is common and indeed is usually a ground issue. I had one radio that did that and it had lost the negative lead ground. It was getting its DC ground thru the coax shield. Unscrew the antenna and the radio would shut off.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
