does anyone know what the mod is for adding talkback to my rci 2990? i read somewhere that i can remove D80 to add talkback to the radio. is this true or is there another way...i would like to hook up the talkback to the tone control knob, since the tone control was never functional on these radios. then it would be variable, which i think i need because my D104 silver eagle is so sensitive. i would just like to be able to hear the talkback slightly so i can adjust the echo to a tolerable level without having to hook up another radio or ask someone on the air. thanks.

I believe the 2990s and 2950s share the same component numbering.. It's been awhile since I've owned a 2990.

Here is the way I've always done it on the 2950s

1. Cut D-78. Wire a SPST switch in series with D-78 to make it switchable.

2. Replace D-115 with an .0047mf disc cap.

You'll love the fact that you can switch it off when you're operating sideband. In fact, I usually turn my talkback on just long enough to set my echo or mic gain then it gets shut right back off.
