Well it seems RCI is working on a new model of 2970 using 1446's instead of 2290's. Going to be interesting.

I would rather have the 2sc2290 transistors there a lot tougher but a little more money also.. Maybe thats what there tryin to do is save a few bucks.

There is several reasons behind it. One the new changes to the 2290. Second is cost and availability. And third I am told not much performance difference.

They are still making 2290's but Toshiba has changed material they are using to manufacture them which has caused the price to increase a few bucks a pill.

2 2879 would get that radio justa hammerin!!! I would deffinately pay the few bucks more. I wasent aware of these finals materials changing but did notice a few places prices going up on them. I see no problem with them using 1446 transistors I meen look at half the amps made there using them either as primary finals or as drivers atleast.

The 2970/6300/6900/2995DX that had dual 2290's all now are manufactured with dual 1446's with similar wattage output and performance.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
