If you really don't care about SSB.........Connex 3300HP with the dual finals! Extra channels and will "kick the cat and walk the dog" if tuned by a decent tech! May be a little high for your budget but if you don't care about SSB than that's what I would get!

My Galaxy 77 smokes on AM and ain't too shabby on SSB either! Gotta get the freq counter though!

My 44 has served me very well on AM.

JD's right about the freq. counter. It would be easy to get lost without it.

Hello DG1976, Connex3300hp. I have the Galaxy 99, but it's alot more money than the 3300hp, and the Connex has a wee bit better receive (in my opinion). The 99 has a few bells and whistles that I rarely use, and one doesn't need the frequency counter for am only use. The transmit modulation (loud and clean) on the 3300hp is as good as the 99. All my fellow truckers that run the 3300hp LOVE their radios, and I can tell you they sound awsome. Either the 99 or the 3300 would be my choice, along with an Astatic 636L noise cancelling mic and a good antenna, you can't go wrong. The only reason I am suggesting the 3300 over the 99 is "only am" use and price...

Good luck, Hossless

recommended radio

I agree with Lucky, a good tech can make a cobra 29 sound like a galaxy or other big radio. A bad tech can really screw up a big radio. As far as choice, it's just that-choice, and there are alot of good loud radios out there to choose from.

Good luck!

Check out the (click here)Midland 77-115 I bought one a while back when they discontinued them and I'm really impressed with it. Everytime I hook it up I get "You owe me some new windows! What the **** kinda radio is that?" routine. Mine just had a simple tune up and channel mod (-40 to +40) and really walks the dog. It's got 4 memory settings and the best Weather recieve I've ever heard (can come in handy on the road) It's a small radio with a BIG PUNCH Add a good mic. and you are good to go. It has no echo or talk back but you can add a 2018 echo mic or a Mobile Max if you want that kinda sound. I see that Bills has some for $60 The only thing I'm not fond of is the knobs are really small.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Here is the deal. I've been kicking around what new "CB" to get for use in my semi. I've decided that I don't need anything besides an AM only radio since I only will use it in my truck. So far I have tried a Cobra 25, a Texas Ranger 696F (borrowed), a Titan roadpro, a Galaxy 99, and a few select others. My Galaxy 99 has been by far the best, followed by the 25, then the 696F. What sets the Galaxy apart from the others IMHO was the excellent noise rejection, excellent receive sensitivity and excellent receive clarity. Receive clarity is important in a noisy truck. Plus, the 99 sounded good on the air.

What I am looking for is a radio with the same or better AM performance as the Galaxy 99. Something in the $150-200 range that will hold up to use in a big truck. A radio that when I key up and say "Hello, come in", somebody comes back to me and says, "WHAT'S THE 20 ON THE BIG RADIO, COME ON!" Also, I want it to be fairly good out of the box, I don't want be forced to hack, extensively modify, or screwdriver a new radio to death, to make it sound good.

So, here it is: I liked the features and function of the Galaxy 10 meter radio. So, I have been condsidering a lesser model than the 99. I've been on the fence between a Galaxy 33, a 55, or something else entirely. What would you recommend?

Sorry for getting long winded, just looking for some opinions and advice here.

Thanks. Dan

P.S. In other posts, I saw some comments about the 99 not being as sensitive as other radios. Someone also said that this is an easy fix. Can someone elaborate on this a little? I can say that the 99 is the best radio that I have used for quite some time, but if you can make it better, why not? thanks again!

FINALLY, its all back together......Now, all we need to do is figure out whereTHIS part goes.</p>Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub86.ezboard.com/bworldwidecbradioclub.showUserPublicProfile?gid=dg1976>dg1976</A> at: 1/31/03 2:37:17 pm
