H&Y has these on sale for $300 on close out . from what i understand they need a watt or 2 deadkey and 10-12 watts pep drive or they can be dammaged . if driven properly are these decent amps ? 300ish pep watts , plug in the wall AC powered plus 12 volts @ 3 amps for driving a simple mobile radio seems like a bit much for for just 3 C notes .

p.s. does spec2 mean factory second or referb ?

Definitely a low drive amp. It would be great for small single final radio that keys 2 and swings about 8. Mine sounded a little crunchy on SSB, so I'm not sure if the bias circuit is set up properly for that mode.

I seem to remember that Bob85 knew a fix for that bias issue, but I've slept since then.

The little built in power supply is pretty useless. Don't try to run a radio with it. Maybe lights for your meter, or to power a power mic or something.

Bias circuit is raspy sounding on SSB but I have a fix for that that Bob85 sent me he found a way to straighten that out and was kind enough to share it with me so Ill pull mine out of the closet and get that taken care of soon.

These are sturdy little amplifiers and they are nice at $300.00 onsale thats a great price for a 300-400 watt amplifier Ive seen people push these pretty hard with no flames or smoke as a result.

I think this is the most proffessional looking base amplifier as far as a solid state unit. AM/FM there fine but as far as SSB which is what I use 99% of the time other picky SSB users will notice the class C type sound and let you know about it.
