The Galaxy Saturn/amp is squealing because you have the output of the radio way too high into the amp and it is causing the amp to break out into self-oscillation. That would be my first guess.
Shottky diodes 1N6263 can be put in for better receive, but I am unfamiliar with the chassis series of the Saturn. Perhaps someone may chime in and say what it is.
The Melaka scratchy SSB could be a lot of things. Probably the mic, as a first guess . . .

If the Melaka sounds scratchy on SSB, chances are that someone had the "Golden Screwdriver" in it and pulled the modulation limiter. Have a tech check out that radio, and do a good TX/RX alignment and make sure that nothing's been pulled or clipped.
