YES YES YES and MORE YES, they were origionally designed for use in the horizontal sweep circuit in a television set, never for transmitting use. Although, in their time, they had some desirable charachteristics for RF linear amplifier usage. They were also cheap, which made them attractive. However, now, they are not readily available, expensive, and not as rugged as most transmitting tubes on the market these days. Although, if you run them properly, they'll run forever.
You could easily kill yourself with that thing if you don't have a thorough understanding of how to work on such high voltage devices.<img src=http://users.joplin.com/dutch64804/posticon54.gif ALT=":54"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/sick.gif ALT=":x">
Good point, and one that should always be stressed..please be careful when working on high voltage equipment. Know and understand how to make sure that the bleeder resistors are functioning, and how to bled the device itself. If you don't understand these simple concepts, don't work on it.... not because you're incapable of learning, but I would pick up a few books first on the subject. I would much rather have you pop back on the forum and tel us you are going to wait and read first, rather than just not hearing anything from you and wondering what happened. I guess it's like alot of other hobbies, they can be fun, but some caution should be exercised.
I hear you all about the voltage danger issue, I'm not going to attempt any complicated work myself.
Thanks, Hossless
PS, what would make something go "POP" very loudly in my amp when I key to talk. This has only happened about 4 or 5 times since I have had the amp (about 2 month or so).
A local told me it could either be a bad relay or a tube arching.
Is it possible to be on a lake and have a homing directional beam being emitted from the shore so a person could navigate to that beam's source? For example at night to a jetty.
