Grabbed this from the Bay of Fleas a while back.

If you look closely you may notice a dark streak down the face of the radio about where the squelch knob is. Turns out somebody had let something nasty drip on and run down from the top to the bottom. So I just had to clean it.

Yep, took the black right off. Only where the mystery goo was, but still. In addition to the squelch knob it also crossed the "Low" filter button. Which means it probably got inside as well.

Which it did.

It's not too bad, but I still have to more less remove the front of the radio to get rid of the rust, then paint what remains to prevent a repeat performance. There's also rust on the inside front of the bottom cover.

But no matter what I do, this thing will never have the value it could have had some previous owner not allowed the face to get eaten.

Which I guess means I'm free to get stupid with it since a simple restore is probably not in the cards anymore.

Sadly many radios probably fall in this category. Never know what is inside. (Better than a roach infested radio, but the roaches died 15+ years ago.) All you can do is just clean it up the best you can. Better than letting it rot away another 10+ years.
