Starting to gather up and "triage" some of the questionable radios I have been collecting....

I hope you all don't mind... but it kind of IS another part of this "CB world" we are in......

So far I have:

JC Penney 6247
- No RX or TX.... AM/USB/LSB none of the above.
Not with internal OR external speaker
DO get pops out of the speaker when changing modes
- PA works fine.
- Nothing on the meter
- literally.... only the PA function works.

President "Teddy R"
- Does not power on at all (all lights 'off'.... NOTHING) BUT...
does NOT blow the fuse on power coming in (I have a 3A fast blo in the bench power cord!)

Johnson Messenger 123A
- protective diode is believed to be shorted. Measures 'low ohms' BOTH ways on incoming power leads.
(like an idiot... I put power to it anyway... and blew the fuse in the service DC line! Rookie mistake!!!)
But it did measure shorted.

Midland 13-862B (23 ch)
- has transmit
- has receive
- PA works
- meter not working
- just need to check alignment

[edited to add this Cobra 21]
Cobra 21 (23 Channel, crystal synthesized, single EXT SPKR jack)
- I HAD to spray some cleaner on the channel selector wafer... I could tell it WANTED to work..... ONCE I did that.....
- decent TX (*)
- decent RCV (*)

- now... for the (*)....
no transmit on 5,6,7,8 AND 9,10,11,12 so it looks like I have two bad crystals on the 6 crystal oscillator.

----------------

I might check more of the radios before I commit and start tearing into any of them.

Like I say... I'm just sharing what I'm up to..... for fun and entertainment purposes... ;)

One item I have learned is that if it brings you joy restore it and use it. I love the sound of the old speakers coming to life. No digital processing. I have a JCPenney 40 Channel I plan to set up just a a talkback/monitor radio near the bench just to here myself transmit, no antenna connected. I have an old Royce base station I use just to monitor Channel 19 locally. Many just bring back happy memories. I do the same with older firearms. I have many Sear & Roebuck guns that manufactured were just like CBs, OEM manufactured and rebranded. I appreciate the old joke, and I am paraphrasing with no offense at all intended, that Kraco radios are like big girls. Both fun to play with until your friends see you. I appreaciate that Kraco brand was big with K-Mart if memory serves correctr.
