All I know is that I have been running a Super Big Stick (same type of antenna as yours) continously for over 30 years with no static related problems. I mount em and forget em. PS: Fla is the lightning capitol of the world. I unhook the coax in big storms only. Never lost a radio. I did see(FEEL) a lightning strike to a FG marine antenna about 100 feet from me, and it wasnt pretty. Fiberglass everywhere!!!
