Static????

Hey guys I'm running a cobra 29 st with a 4 ft firestik. Swr is 1.1 on ch1 and 1.3 on 40. I can squelch to nothing but every time I'm near or passing a rig I get a good bit of static. Help please.

I'm running it in a pickup. Every time I pass a big rig(I'm assuming his radio is on) either way on the road I get a sudden burst of static.

Probably picking up some electrical noise from the trucks.

For the most part yes

Static like that is normal on the road. Some rigs make more noise and some make much less noise. Not much you can do about it.

Your antenna or radio choice has nothing to do about it.

make sure your antenna is grounded good and not grounding back down the coax to the radio ground,,, common noise with magnet mount antennas,, i have seen this many times over the years,,
