Stinger length?

I bought a Predator double coil to go on my semi. The total length of the shaft is 22" long(from the bottom to where the stinger goes in). What would be a good starting length for the stinger for the citizens band? I don't want to cut it too short. I'm sure there is a formula for this but I am using my cell phone right now as I don't have service for my laptop at the moment, so it's somewhat difficult to find what I need. Thanks for any help.

The duel coil predators have a designed length of about 4.5 feet of overall length if that helps...

Just use a long piece of cheap wire about the same size as the stinger. Cut it long and figure out how long you need.

you can use a coathanger if it is long enough.

Be sure it's a wire coat hanger. The plastic ones don't work very well except as hangers...

Predator only supplies one length of a stinger for all thier different antenna configurations. I have the double coil and it looks like I will need to take a good 10" off of the supplied stinger.

The Wilson 5000 I have on my truck now needed 2" lopped off. I knew that POS Chinese Harbor Freight bolt cutter would finally come in handy.
One of the locals has a Predator 10K with a 27" shaft, he had to cut off 4".
We checked the swr and it was over 3-1 and we couldn't believe how much we had to cut but after pulling our hair out it came down to flat!

Well I finally got the stinger trimmed down, I took probably 15" of it off.My SWR reading is flat on channel 19 and about 1.1 on channel 1 and 40. Hey DB it was 4.5 feet overall length and Marconi the hanger trick worked pretty good,so thanks to both of you! Now I will see how this antenna performs. I will be ordering the 12" shaft so I can get the coils above the top of my cab.
