Are there configurable options to receive email alerts for new posts in a subscribed thread, or do we need to login and view alerts?

If you want emails to threads, use the "Watch Thread" link at the top of the thread- you get a choice on whether or not you want emails.

This forum does not allow a single user to have more than one username. If anyone wants to change their username contact an admin and it will be done. Multiple accounts belonging to the same member will be deleted without warning.
